We put on several fun and enriching events each year that kids and families look forward to as ongoing traditions for our community. Some are fundraisers and some are community builders
Please check our events listing page for the most current list of upcoming events.
Below are summaries of some of our most popular annual events supported by the PTA. Click here for a more comprehensive list: PTA-sponsored Cornell Events at-a-Glance
The Silly Olympics
The “Silly O” is a great way to start the school year — with a Fall Carnival that celebrates the Cornell Community! Food, games, and races! One of Cornell’s most beloved traditions. Plan now to volunteer next year!
In addition to the annual Cornell Halloween parade at school, our local Westbrae Nursery creates a pumpkin patch. They donate the pumpkins and give 100% of all pumpkin sales to Cornell! This is an incredible fundraiser for our school. Westbrae Nursery is located at 1272 Gilman St. A fun Pumpkin Patch event with a free magic show is held in late October, but you can buy pumpkins all month long!
Friday Movie Nights
All year long, we host fun movie nights on select Friday evenings in the Multi-Purpose Room at Cornell. Refreshments, pizza, and real movie popcorn are available for sale.
In partnership with Books Inc. and Scholastic Books, there are several opportunities throughout the school year to purchase books for your children while helping the PTA to earn money to support our various programs. In addition, author appearances and book signings are part of the fun. One of our latest visitors was Judd Winick, author of the Hilo books!
Winter Craft Fair
Every holiday season, we have dozens of different hands-on craft activities for kids of all ages –hosted in the MPR — and a great bake sale. Join us in making fleece pillows, beeswax candles, magnets, and many more fun and creative items while enjoying food from the bake sale and spending time with your Cornell community. We always need volunteers to make this a success.
Cornell’s Got Talent! Show
Cornell kicks off spring with a call for students from every grade to audition, and then wow us with their best talent at the Ocean View Elementary School Auditorium. Many volunteers are always needed to help make the magic happen.
Every spring, the Cornell community gathers at the Albany High Gymnasium for an evening of dancing, games, contests, delicious food, and amazing prizes. To make this event a success, we always depend on our amazing volunteers.
The Coyote Fun Run
This spring event promotes fitness and raises needed funds that will go directly to our PTA programs. Students run for up to 15 minutes and earn pledges for each lap walked or run. We always welcome parent support to help count laps, donate orange slices, and cheer on our runners. This is an easy, short volunteer commitment.
